The 20th annual Pikes Peak Writers Conference will be held Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Marriott Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I’m slated for April 21.

I’m excited about my workshop topic: Fooling the Reader Fairly

If you write mystery, crime, suspense, or thrillers, you need to keep the reader from figuring out whodunit (or what happened or how it happened or why). You want readers to say as they read the last page, “Oh! I didn’t figure out that X was the murderer, but it makes total sense.” This workshop will help you plant clues, develop red herrings, and misdirect and mislead your readers, all while giving them a fair shot at figuring out the puzzle themselves.

The conference promises “Jam-packed days of informative workshops, motivational speeches, networking opportunities, Read & Critique sessions, and the chance to pitch your manuscript to some of the most sought-after editors and agents in the business.”
